Sex Tourist Express Bus, Bangkok to Pattaya - very cheap!!!

CAMERA USED IN THIS VIDEO: A video where I took the cheap bus (108 baht) from central Bangkok to Pattaya. I first had a coffee and muffin at Coffee Club, Ekkamai where I killed some time waiting for the bus. I took a 40 baht mototaxi from Pattaya bus station to Pattaya Red Planet hotel.


From central Bangkok the cheap bus is what I nearly always use to get to Pattaya. It used to be called the sex tourist express because it was predominantly older white men who were the customers, now a multitude of demographics take it.

You catch it from Ekkamai bus station in Bangkok and can use the skytrain to get there.

The buses leave every 30 or 40 mins depending on how busy they are and the journey takes 2-3 hours depending on the traffic.

The cost is 108 baht per person (the price varies due to competition).

Satoyama is a Japanese term applied to the border zone or area between mountain foothills and arable flat land. Literally, sato means arable and livable land or home land, and yama means hill or mountain. Satoyama have been developed through centuries of small scale agricultural and forestry use.
The concept of satoyama has several definitions. The first definition is the management of forests through local agricultural communities. During the Edo era, young and fallen leaves were gathered from community forests to use as fertilizer in wet rice paddy fields. Villagers also used wood for construction, cooking and heating. More recently, satoyama has been defined not only as mixed community forests, but also as entire landscapes that are used for agriculture. According to this definition, satoyama contains a mosaic of mixed forests, rice paddy fields, dry rice fields, grasslands, streams, ponds, and reservoirs for irrigation. Farmers use the grasslands to feed horses and cattle. Streams, ponds, and reservoirs play an important role in adjusting water levels of paddy fields and farming fish as a food source.

This video was from a recent Visa run to Vietnam, where I stayed in the capital city of Saigon for a few days. This was my first night of many and I was surprised at all the changes from my last Vietnam visit a few years back.

Its much busier now than I remember, and there are loads more hostess bars too. The beer is insanely cheap at some bars, and a lot of the regular Vietnamese girls were very easy on the eye.

Some of the massage places on Bui Vien are fronts for special massage, so if you like happy endings then it might be worth a look. But dont expect the pretty massage lady at the front to be the one to perform the deed, they are normally just bait girls to get you through the door.

I was going to hit a couple of clubs on this night but ended up being a bit tired so I just drank beer on Bui Vien street until around 3am.

I ended up hitting the clubs on a later night so footage from different Saigon bars and clubs will be included in upcoming Vietnam videos...

A VLOG from May 2016 of an evening drinking in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Street 172

I ate in the Sony Side Up restaurant on this night, ordering Chicken breast with mash (with peppercorn sauces). This restaurant was as good as any Ive tried around 172 street.

Some other customers inside were openly smoking marijuana in the restaurant, something that would never happen in Thailand.

I had a hard nights drinking ahead on this night so needed to line the stomach with something substantial. Asian meals typically are light and not as filling as food from the west. Sometimes its best to play it safe too when eating in 3rd world countries as food poisoning can knock you out for days.

Live music

There is a thriving live music scene in Phnom Penh and the Sundance Inn and Saloon had an indie / rock band playing on this night. I was surprised to see that even some small bars in PP had stages for musicians to play on.

I went everywhere via tuk tuk or moto taxi and never paid more than $1 for a trip. Phnom Penh is not a place to wander around alone late at night, even around the tourist areas.

69 Bar, Street 136

One of my favourite hostess bars in Phnom Penh. The girls are mostly above average and on this night the looker of the bunch started dancing on the bar for me when I asked her :) They are definitely up for it in the 69 bar.

Black guys in Phnom Penh

Every time I visit there seems to be more black guys in Phnom Penh. Most speak English fast with a heavy African accent. Inside many of the hostess bars I visited there were always few tables of these guys (usually all chain smoking and speaking loud living the gangsta life).

Speaking to a hostess girl about it she said that almost none of these guys had regular jobs in Cambodia, and she didnt know where they got their money from. The cost of living in Cambodia is one of the cheapest in the world, and there is not much restrictions on Visas.

Trouble incident

While sipping my frosty Angkor and ignoring my hostess I heard some commotion down the street which meant there was a serious dispute of some sort. I was too far away but you can see all the Cambodian guys looking and ready to jump in if it kicked off.

The actual incident was between a foreigner and a Cambodian man where the foreigner was disrespected and he wouldnt take it lying down.

It was the blue t-shirt foreigner who was drunkenly kicking off when I was passing through and the bald guy calmed the whole situation down in the end saving his friend.

It did look like an all out street brawl was on the cards at one point and a couple of eagle eyed hostess girls spotted me filming and started throwing drinks at me ;) I turned off the camera and the incident died down due to the bald guy helping his friend.

Street 104

This place was my first visit and with the signage and the bars facing each other it reminded me of Bangkoks Soi Cowboy on a much smaller scale.

There were hardly any bait girls outside the bars and some were strange as they looked closed but once you opened the door it would be of customers and hostess girls with the music pumping.

Beggars

A group of beggars accidentally got in the way of me filming and they demanded $5 from me. A few choice words in Thai sent them on their way.

I almost never give to beggars especially around tourist areas as 99% are controlled by mafia (inc tuk tuk guys). A beggar will only receive a fraction of any money given and it also reinforces their tragic lifestyle.

Its better to give money to a charity that helps to work towards a sustainable future for these beggar victims.

Candy Bar

I normally like to head to this bar to end the night as you see some random stuff in there. I once walked in only to see a foreign guy chasing a ladyboy with a barstool trying to smash it over her head!

On this night there was a guy sleeping at the bar with 2 hostess girls massaging him. He looked like he was straight out of a Mad Max film or something, and would swear incessantly at all the staff every time he woke up. So random :)

Street 172

This is Phnom Penhs cheap charlie area. It is home to many inexpensive bars, restaurants, guesthouses and also has a few hostess bars thrown in for good measure.

It is a good place to find $0.50 draught beers and many expat teachers congregate here in groups for the inexpensive offerings. The food is generally good here and many restaurants do take away service for the local expats.

The hostess bars were quiet on street 172 when I visited so I never ventured in as I generally dont like being a solo customer in a bar. The Apple bar girls were probably the best lookers from what I saw.

Sundance Inn and Saloon.

This place is pretty solid choice with rooms starting at around $20. Its guest friendly, they have a small swimming pool at the back and a lively bar area that is good to meet fellow travellers if that is your thing.

The first $1 beer of the trip was at the Sundance Inn and the $1 tacos there tasted fine (but could have done with some salsa).

$1 tuk tuk ride.

I went everywhere via tuk tuk or moto taxi and never paid more than $1 for a trip. September is the low season and there are far more tuk tuk drivers than customers so if one wont go for $1 then the next probably will.

Phnom Penh is not a place to wander around alone late at night, even around the tourist areas. I dont walk anywhere round these streets at night and always take motorbike taxis or tuk tuks.

Street 104

I went too early on this night and didnt realise that the bars really get going from 9pm onwards.

It was interesting to see they are building a Hooters franchise restaurant right on Street 104. The tuk tuk guys said they were building a hotel upstairs too.

$0.75 beers at the Cheers bar all night long is a very good deal on Street 104. If there was a bit more atmosphere I would have hung around a bit longer but decided to move on...

Angry Birds Bar, Street 130

This bar was well run and had a few nice hostess ladies inside. Worth a look if you are nearby. Also, I spotted a tuk tuk on Street 172 that gives free rides direct to the Angry Birds bar, good if you are heading over that way anyway.

The Corner 136 bar

This hostess bar is probably my favourite in all of Phnom Penh as they have sexy dancing downstairs, a chill out area at the front and an upstairs seating area overlooking the street below.

They also have a lot of hostess ladies on their books. My one that I talked to was a very pleasant girl. She hangs around the bar every night drinking with guys so its inevitable shell go with a customer soon enough. It wasnt to be for me even though she was lovely, and petite at only 40 kg (I dont usually dont care for girls with a slim build like her). Some guy will get lucky and end up taking her back to the hotel...

Sorya Beer Garden

This place is popular with local expats and has cheap beer, pool tables and always a few freelancers milling around. I must have picked a bad night to visit as the selection of freelancers wasnt the best putting it mildly.

Pontoon

This nightclub is now has cover charges some nights due to its increasing popularity. I think the club is ok, but not great. There was much more security on my visit and they were hassling me a bit for taking a couple of photos which was surprising.

Last drink on Street 136

I went for a last drink in a random bar here, turns out that there were 2 Korean guys buying drinks for the whole bar and the night descended into a blurry haze...

Street 172
This is Phnom Penhs cheap charlie area. It is home to many inexpensive bars, restaurants, guesthouses and also has a few hostess bars thrown in for good measure.

Red Fox 2 has just opened, and they allow smoking weed at the bar the same as Red Fox 1 on Street 136 (they still run regular poker games at Red Fox 1).

Dolce Vita and the Blue Dolphin are inexpensive places to eat on Street 172 and just as good as any.

Oskar Bistro, riverfront

I dont think I ordered very well here as my pizza was ok, but not brilliant as some people rave about the food at Oskar (in Phnom Penh and Sukhumvit Soi 11, Bangkok).

Gay bar next to Sun and Moon Urban Hotel

Not sure if there is a party like this every night but the music was certainly banging on this night from the small gay bar.

Karaoke at Ostro Bistro, Street 136

The less said about that the better for everybody :)

Plan B Hostess bar

A decent enough hostess bar, I had one drink with a lady here before moving on. She was half Chinese/Cambodian and had a very distinctive look so youll know here if you see her.

Farm Fresh girl on Street 136

She was nice and up for it but it was a mission just making simple small talk so I gave up in the end.

Monk noise early in the morning from the temple complex

Looking back the temple noise seemed really loud, but I think they either stopped after I filmed it or the soundproofing at Okay Boutique hotel was really good. Either way I had a great sleep on this night :)
